21 weeks until Star Wars: The Return of Skywalker
“I don’t think we need worry too much. A single rebellious act isn’t the start of anything. This was a blip. A glitch in the system. Nothing more.” – Baron Lero Danthe, Star Wars: A New Dawn
Star Wars: A New Dawn is about Kanan Jarrus’s struggle to forget he was once a Jedi when he meets a member of the growing Rebellion, Hera Syndulla.
Written by: John Jackson Miller (author of From A Certain Point of View short story and Canto Bight novella)

When does A New Dawn take place?
Between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
Or more specifically: 11 BBY which is eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith.
Synopsis:
Kanan Jarrus has spent the last eight years fleeing from the Empire and hiding his abilities of the Force. After discovering a growing conflict between the Empire and revolutionaries on the planet Gorse, he attempts to leave behind his freighter pilot job and disappear into the galaxy once more. Before he has a chance to escape, he meets Hera Syndulla and inadvertently helps her with her mysterious cause against the Imperial technocrat Count Denetrius Vidian.

Hera Syndulla is one of my favourite characters and I loved exploring a different story of her outside of the show Rebels. This story is essentially the meet cute between Hera and Kanan and I love their personalities and how they work together. Kanan, who is quite the amusing lovesick puppy, is constantly trying to rescue or save Hera, but she is always two steps ahead of him. I would love to read more about their time together between A New Dawn and Rebels.
I also really enjoyed the conspiracy and mystery aspect of this book revolving around Count Vidian. It gave the book some complexity that was more than just the Rebels fighting the Imperials.
Despite the politically thriller side of A New Dawn, this book also had some lighthearted moments and funny quotes (“I need you to fly like a Wookie whose hair is on fire—and who thinks everybody lit the match.”) Overall it was well-written, entertaining, and desperately made me want to watch all four seasons of Rebels again.
I would recommend A New Dawn to anyone who is a fan of the show Rebels, especially of the characters of Hera and Kanan.
Next week: Leia, Princess of Alderaan
