Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is a fantastic hotel at Walt Disney World and is located in the Disney’s Animal Kingdom area. It is categorized as a moderate resort, meaning it has far more amenities than the value resorts without the price of the deluxe resorts. The simple dining options and lack of private balconies might differentiate the moderates from the deluxe resorts but the newly refurbished rooms of Coronado Springs are just as nice as some of the deluxe rooms; very modern and classy!
Coronado Springs is themed to the American Southwest and Spanish Colonial Mexico and is a very large and spread out resort. The guest rooms are in a number of different low-rise buildings that are separated into three sections. These three sections are called the Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas. Each section has its own architectural and landscaping style to give them their own atmosphere within the general theme. This post will take a closer look at each of those sections.
Casitas
The Casitas, meaning small house, consists of Buildings 1 to 5. Buildings 1, 2, and 3 are considered Preferred, meaning that they are closest to El Centro, the main building containing the lobby, gift shop, restaurants, etc. This area is themed with the Spanish architect found in Mexico’s cities. There are colorful wrought iron railings, beautiful fountains, and quaint courtyards found woven throughout the buildings. Each section also has its own quiet pool and the Casita’s pool is by Building 4. The La Vida Health Club, which contains a gym, salon, and spa, is located in the Casitas section close to quiet pool. There are also laundry facilities near each quiet pool as well. The bus stop that services the Casitas is Bus Stop 2. For all of the Parks’ buses, this is actually the first stop with El Centro’s Bus Stop 1 being the last stop. The Disney Springs bus starts at El Centro so the Casitas is the second stop.
Ranchos
The Ranchos section is furthest from El Centro but quite close to the main pool area, the Dig Site. The Ranchos are themed to the cattle ranches of the Southwest. They have a desert look and feel with a neutral colour scheme to the buildings and plenty of cacti around. Buildings 6a, 6b, 7a, and 7b make up the Ranchos. The quiet pool and laundry facility is located near Building 7b with Bus Stop 3 close to Building 7a. The Ranchos may seem a little barren at first glance but true to Disney nature there are plenty of small details. There are critter tracks set in the concrete, rocky stream beds, and even hitching posts scattered around. The Ranchos section is a very calm and quiet area as it is far away from the current construction going on.
Cabanas
The Cabanas are located between the Dig Site pool and El Centro. This section is themed to the beach resorts found along Mexico’s coastline. The buildings are brightly coloured and the majority of the rooms face out towards the central Lago Dorado. This is the only section with a white sand beach, complete with hammocks! Everyone from around the resort is welcome to use the beach but it sure completes the look of the Cabanas to have it right out front. The hammocks are doted along the beach with large, beautiful palm trees shading them. The Cabanas section is made up of Buildings 8a, 8b, and 9a. Building 9b was recently torn down to make room for the brand new multistoried building which is well on its way. This close construction makes the Cabanas section rather nosy at the moment. Bus Stop 4 is the Cabanas stop and the quiet pool and laundry facility are located near Building 9a.
I hope you enjoyed this quick tour of the Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort! Have you ever stayed at this resort? Which section is your favourite?
Coronado Springs is our family favorite! We’ve stayed in the Cabanas and Ranchos but we prefer the Ranchos. I miss it!
This is one of the resorts I haven’t stayed at yet! I’m highly considering it for one of my trips next year.
I have stayed here a few years ago (in the Ranchos) and I loved it! Walking around the grounds at night was one of my favorite things to do after a long day at the parks. The lights and the music set such a great mood. We even saw armadillos once! For a Northern girl, that was very exciting;).
Coronado is such a vacation destination in itself!
