Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Hotels

There are three official Disney Hotels at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort: Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Hollywood Hotel, and Disney Explorers Lodge. When my husband and I went to Hong Kong Disneyland in February/March of 2017 we stayed at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel. We explored the Disneyland Hotel and it was absolutely gorgeous. We dined at Walt’s Café and the food was delicious! I will include a review for Walt’s Café later on in this post. The Explorers Hotel was still being built but from what I could see at the time and from looking at photos since it has opened, this hotel looks incredible! All three hotels are walkable to the Park but a shuttle bus also runs constantly throughout the day. We would take the shuttle bus to the Park in the mornings but would walk back at the end of the day, since the buses were very crowded. The walking path back to the hotels is through gorgeous gardens that feature fun banners with Disney characters on them. There is Disney music playing and the area reminded me of the Disneyland Resort esplanade in Anaheim. But the best part was that it was completely deserted! All the other guests would take the shuttle buses so we would have a magical and quiet walk back to the hotels. The walk was about 15 minutes to the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and then another 5 minutes to Disney’s Hollywood Hotel.

Disney’s Hollywood Hotel:

This hotel is themed to the art-deco style of 1920s Hollywood. The décor was very detailed and consistently kept with the theme, though Stitch was often in the lobby to greet guests. He was a lot of fun but did not really fit the theme. In Stitch’s defense, who would be a better choice as a 1920s art-deco Hollywood Disney character?

When we arrived at the hotel, bell services came to greet us and took our bags. This process was very considerate, but was a little chaotic! This was one of a few times where there was a bit of a language barrier and we were a little confused as to what was going on. Check-in was a complete breeze though and the cast members at the front desk were wonderful. They even gave us “Welcome Back” buttons, despite it being our first time at the hotel.

The room was very spacious and kept to the theme. The walls were well insulated as we did not hear any neighbours. There was a hot water kettle and options for tea and coffee with decent sized mugs. The beds were comfy, though a bit on the small size. We were given new slippers every day and they were so cute with the little Mickey’s on them. The hotel was also very generous with their toiletries.  Besides the standard shampoo and lotion, there were also adorable cups with Mickey ear lids filled with toothbrushes, combs, Q-tips, nail files, and shower caps. There was some wear and tear in the walls and could have used a fresh coat of paint but other than that the room was in fine shape.

There are three restaurants in the hotel; Chef Mickey, Hollywood and Dine, and Studio Lounge.  We had lunch on our first day at Studio Lounge, which has a full menu as well as a being a place just for drinks. The food is a variety of western, vegetarian, and Asian and was quite good! On our last night, we ate at Chef Mickey which is a buffet that has character dining for select meals. Mickey did not join us for late night dining but the food was great and there were many options for all tastes. One downside to the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is that there is no Downtown Disney area to do some shopping and eating after the Park closes and the Resort is fairly far away from the actual city centre of Hong Kong.  So we appreciated that this restaurant was open late since the Park tends to close early; it closed at 8 pm the nights we were there.

The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. There is an outdoor pool which was closed when we were there in the winter months due to the cooler weather but it is very large and has a fun looking waterslide. The pool is even shaped like a piano! Around the pool are beautiful gardens and beyond that is a pathway along Hong Kong’s Discovery Bay. This pathway down by the water travels past the other two hotels.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel and would love to return!

Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel:

Fun Fact: Every Disney Parks Resort around the world has a flagship hotel that is Victorian themed except for the original Disneyland. All of these are called the Disneyland Hotel, with the exception of the Grand Floridian at Walt Disney World.

The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is very beautiful and has such a grand feel to it. This is quite a large hotel with lots of areas to explore. There is a hedge maze in the garden area outside along with an outdoor pool. This hotel also has an indoor pool which is open year round. There is a big gift shop as well as a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.  The lobby was very relaxing with live music being played. There are a couple of dining options at this hotel; Crystal Lotus, Enchanted Garden Restaurant, Sea Breeze Bar, and Walt’s Café. I have heard wonderful things about the dim sum at the Crystal Lotus but did not get a chance to try this restaurant. I will just have to go back! We did eat lunch on our last day at Walt’s Café and I am in love with this place! It is the perfect café to eat at for a crazy Walt Disney fan like myself. I seemed to be the only patron who was fully appreciating all of the history that was displayed in the restaurant. The cast members were great and just let me wander around to take everything in. There were many photos of Walt and his work but also notes, drafts, and memos of Walt’s for planning Disneyland and other projects. I have no idea if these were originals or copies from the Walt Disney Archives, but it was still really cool to see Walt’s handwriting and his thoughts on paper. Oh, and the food was delicious! A little bit too delicious because I have not had a cob salad since in fear that it will not be nearly as good as the one I ate at Walt’s Café.

Disney Explorer Hotel:
There is not too much I can say about this hotel as it was still being built when I was there, other than the fact that I really want to stay here! Anything with an Adventureland theme is very intriguing to me and I also love that this hotel has ties with S.E.A. (The Society of Explorers and Adventurers). If you do not know what S.E.A. is, is it basically a fictional organization that has members represented in Disney Parks around the world. Harrison Hightower III is from Tokyo DisneySea’s Tower of Terror, Lord Henry Mystic is from Mystic Manor in Hong Kong Disneyland, and even Dr. Albert Falls from the Jungle Cruise is a member! This hotel looks amazing and I would love a chance to explore and find all the hidden details that I am sure exist!
